213(2): 547-556* 1967* -An attempt has been made to ascribe the regulation of body temperature in homeotherms to the hypothalamus and the preoptic region. Results of measurements of hypothalamic temperature and regulatory responses in the normal dog in hot, neutral, and cold environments and in the resting, waking state are interpreted on the assumption that the hypothalamus responds to changes in its own temperature like a proportional controller with an adjustable set point. The controlling equations relating panting and shivering re’ sponses to the activating signal appear to be of the form R RO = CYR(T~~~~ TsetR), R R. > o. For all environmental temperatures, the proportionality constant for the shivering response was between I and 1.5 kcal kg-l hr-l oC-? The proportionality constant for panting was 2-3 kcal kg-l hr-l ‘C-l and was the same for all environmental temperatures. The set temperature for all regulatory responses increases in the cold environment and decreases in the hot environment. The set temperature for panting exceeds the set temperature for shivering by about 2 C in cold environment (avg skin temp., TAS = 33 C), 2-3 C in neutral environment CT = 35 C) and possibly 4 C in hot environment (TAS = *;7 C). The set temperature for vasoconstriction is between that for shivering and panting. A high internal body temperature lowers all set temperatures and a low internal body temperature increases all set temperatures without affecting the proportionality constants.

Introduction: Emotion regulation models consider a special role for personality, emotional, cognitive and coping factors in distress tolerance. The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of personality traits and cognitive emotion regulation in predicting distress tolerance: The mediating Role of coping strategies. Cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by leishmania tropica is endemic in Iran. Kerman is the fifth most infected foci of dry type of cutaneous leishmaniasis after Tehran, Mashhad, Naishabor and Shiraz. We studied the clinical features of this disease in 664 patients referred to the dermatology and private clinic during the period March 1992 to March 1993 in Kerman. Females were dominated. The d...
متن کاملMetabolic studies on cardiac tissue obtained by needle biopsy in the intact unanesthetized dog.
This paper describes the use of needle biopsy of the heart as a method of obtaining specimens of cardiac muscle for biochemical study in the intact unanesthetized dog. The procedure is simple and may be repeated many times. Studies indicate that tissue obtained by this method resembles conventional heart slices in its behavior in vitro. Included are data on respiration and the effect, of digita...

• The rabbit offers some advantages as an unanesthetized preparation over other species, in that it will, remain quietly, without previous training, in a small cage during a variety of experimental procedures. Previous work from this laboratory has shown that the circulation of the rabbit studied under these conditions is stable as judged by the relative constancy of the resting cardiac output,...
